Happy Summer, folks! Isn’t it lovely to feel warm, shedding winter duds, throwing open windows, lounging by a pool. Even if it’s a kiddie pool.
I love summer.
We are officially finished with school. Portfolios, evaluations, paperwork…all done, submitted. But of course, that means it’s time to begin planning for next year with college visits, and all things seniory. Sniff. Not quite ready for that, to be honest.
So instead, let’s focus on something shallow and frivolous, mkay?
Like my dining room.
I decided recently that it was time to change out my chandelier. When we bought the house, there was a hole in the ceiling where a light should have been. After scouring Ebay for weeks, I found a reproduction crystal chandy that was perfect and perfectly priced.
It’s a lovely piece.
But after 9 years, I was ready for a change.
I wanted something a bit more modern and sleek, and found this Ikea fixture.
It retails for only $30 but someone local was selling a brand new, unused one for $10. Sold. I bought it, painted it black and Chad installed it for me.
It’s perfect. Large, quasi-industrial, a little boho, and works well in the room.
In the cornier there, you can spot our new autograph door, which we keep forgetting to have people sign. Whoops.
We’ve also done a little summerfying outside.
I hung lights and a mirror ball on the gazebo, along with a simple pennant banner I made out of twine and dropcloth fabric.
I also painted some Craigslist wicker chairs for the front porch.
I’m still working to add a little boho feel to the living room. And some day, well get Fiona’s bedroom cleaned, propped, and photographed for you. Until then, happy summer!
